Privacy and cookie policy

The short version: this site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and collects nothing when you read it.

Who runs this site

Brave New Hive is published by Brave New, trading as Brave New Media. The registered entity is Sarron Creative Media SRL, fiscal code 38681961, registered in Bucharest, Sector 2, Romania. For anything on this page, write to anne@brave-new.com.

What this site collects

Nothing, unless you allow analytics. There is no advertising pixel and no embedded third-party player on any page. If you accept analytics in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to count which pages are read, how long for, and how readers arrived (search, a link, a newsletter). Google receives your IP address with each request, sets the cookies described below, and processes the data for us under its terms; we do not use it for advertising, and advertising features are switched off. Google may process this data outside the EU, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. If you reject, or never answer, Google Analytics does not load at all.

Pages are served as static files. Our host keeps ordinary server logs, which include your IP address and the page requested, for delivery and security. We do not combine those with anything else or use them to build a profile.

Cookies

Nothing is set until you choose. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier, which tell repeat visits apart and last up to two years. Your choice itself, accept or reject, is kept in your browser's local storage so we do not ask again; that is necessary for the banner to work and needs no consent. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the foot of every page; rejecting after accepting deletes the Google Analytics cookies.

The subscribe form

The subscribe box signs you up to the Brave New Journal, the weekly email Brave New sends every Tuesday; it is the same list as the signup on brave-new.com. When you subscribe we send you one email asking you to confirm, and nothing is added to the list until you click it. We then store your email address with our email provider, Brevo, together with when you confirmed and details of the request, so we can show when consent was given if it is ever questioned. We use the address to send the Journal and nothing else: no other list, no sharing, no advertising.

Brevo also records whether you open an issue and which links you follow, which is how we know which pieces are worth writing more of. Most email clients can block that by declining to load remote images. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing is immediate and ends all of it.

Links out

Links to brave-new.com and to sources cited in entries leave this site, and what those sites do is covered by their own policies. The share buttons on each entry are plain links too: nothing is sent to LinkedIn, X or your mail client until you click one, and nothing is sent to us at all.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to how it is used. If you have never subscribed, there is usually nothing to hand over, and we will tell you so plainly rather than send an empty form. Requests go to anne@brave-new.com and are answered within 30 days. You can also complain to your national data protection authority; in Romania that is the ANSPDCP.

Terms

This policy forms part of the site's terms of use.
